Team Canada Scholarship Expands Program

The third edition of the Team Canada Scholarship will grow to include two young Canadian drivers. The focus will continue to be on the world renown Formula Ford Festival held at Brands Hatch, England in late October. After a very successful debut in 2011, with the first Canadian on pole for the final and leading the early laps, the program continued in 2012 and once again showcased the talent that Canada has in the junior formula car ranks.

Both Xavier Coupal (2011) and Garett Grist (2012) have moved up with Grist Signing with Andretti Autosport for the full USF2000 Championship and recently earned a podium in the USF2000 Winterfest. Drivers who will be vying for the coveted prize will once again be competing in either FF1600 or F2000 in several different Championships across North America. The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship (OFFC), The Formula Tour 1600 Series (Quebec F1600), both the F1600 and F2000 Championship Series (USA) and the USF2000 Championship (USA) are the series that the Team Canada Scholarship will choose from.  With a large contingent of eligible drivers competing, it will once again be difficult to select the winners.

"We are so pleased to expand our program and go to England with not one but two shots at glory" comments Brian Graham a Team Canada Scholarship founder. ''We are working very hard to secure the funding to build the program and have some exciting new ideas of how to raise money and build awareness of the program”. Graham was on stage during the roadracing forum at the recent Canadian Motorsports Expo and announced the expansion of the Scholarship. "We have some terrific supporters that are the cornerstone of the Scholarship - Grote Manufacturing and The Race Drivers Guild of Canada. We will be announcing some new partners shortly and will be revamping the website to give weekly updates sharing some events we will be holding during the year to raise funds as well as awareness of the Scholarship. Our Facebook group is also a great way to stay in touch with the team and interact with us as well”.

One such event that will be held this summer will be a track day where people will spend a day driving their own cars on a proper race track with some of Canada's top amateur racers giving instruction,  as well as a few guest Pro drivers. Several contests are being planned as well that will see the winners receive free race tickets to some of Canada's biggest Motorsports events or be part of the pit crew for a race team at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

2013 is the third year of the Team CANADA Scholarship

Opportunities for young Canadian drivers are few and far between. The program helps fund opportunities for Canada's young up and coming racing athletes with the goal to "send our best" to contest in front of a world class audience. The annual Formula Ford Festival, held at Brands Hatch in the UK every fall, is an event that will present our racer athletes the opportunity to compete on a world stage...where he or she will face one of the largest, most competitive Formula Ford grids in the world!
